The Order of St John is a key supporter of mountain rescue in Scotland, and since 1997 they have provided funding of more than £2.3milion. 23 teams have been supplied with vehicles, mainly landrovers, and new bases have been built for a number of teams, with more requests in the pipeline. In the case of Oban, a landrover has been provided and a redundant fire station purchased and further funding enabled an extensive refurbishment.
