Oban Mountain Rescue Team is an entirely voluntary organisation. All mountain rescue teams are supported by the Scottish Government and receive an annual grant from them. But we still rely heavily on charitable donations and fundraising to equip and run our team.  Our annual running costs are in the region of £30,000 per year.

Please send your donation to the following address:

The Treasurer, Oban Mountain Rescue Team, Mountain Rescue Post, Sinclair Drive, Oban, PA34 4DR

By indicating that you are a UK tax payer and stating that you would like to treat your donation as Gift Aid enables us to to reclaim 28% of your donation from the inland revenue. You can do this by downloading this form, filling it in, and send to the above address along with your Donation. Thank you!

As mentioned above, it takes a lot of hard work to generate the level of funding required to run the Team. The following sections outline different ways in which we fundraise.

From time to time the Team apply to various grant giving bodies and organisations. This process has been most useful in seeking funding for specific purposes including providing safety equipment for team members.

In 2010/11 we gratefully received £11898 core funding from Scottish Government via the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland. We were also fortunate to receive £3000 (Scottish Mountaineering Trust), £2000 (Co-operative Community Fund), £750 (West Highland Housing Association) and £300 (McQueens Charitable Trust) towards purchase of specialist equipment for the team.

If you are a UK tax payer, any donation you give can be declared as "Gift Aid". This enables the Team to claim an additional 28% back form the government.

We are also vary grateful for all the donation that we recieve from members of the public and also from people and families that we have helped over the years. In 2010 we were fortunate to receive donations from;

Vodafone - £4000 - for our involvement in an online promotion video illustrating the role vodafone coverage played in our rescue of a father and son who had fallen down a mountain.

Michael Tunney - £2550 - raised through sponsored mountain climb, events and a raffle after we rescued him and his son in aforementioned incident.

Oban Inner Wheel  - £1600 - through organising coffee mornings and sale of work etc in 2010

The Wiers - circa £3500 - raised from donations collected from visitors to their North Ledaig Caravan Park.

Team member - Lizzie Rose - £322 - raised through her art exhibition staged in the Oban Mountain Rescue Post.

Competitors who took part in the Two Inns Race - £344

If you would like to donate to the team then either click on the donate now button on the left hand side of this page or download this form, fill it in, and send to the address on the bottom of the form. Thank you!
